Believe the Hype – Round 18 (RUCKING Problem!)

Giles a Giant problem

This weekly article will look at who is being HYPED this week as a MUST have buy in AFL DreamTeam and SuperCoach and other HYPED issues of the week.

OUT: Giles (GWS) – IN: ANYONE.

Giles had been one of the better rookie priced players in recent years. He has been solid averaging 75.36 over the season his last five games have been disappointing averaging only 57 ppg with a season low 36 out west on the wide plains of Patersons Stadium last weekend against the Dockers.

With a break-even of 117and his price falling under the 300k mark for the first time since round 5, now is the time to trade away and upgrade to a premium ruckman.

The obvious option if you have the money is to go straight up to Dean Cox. Despite his age and his reduced minutes in the middle of the ground he still finds the ball and has become a strong target up forward in the place of the injured Josh Kennedy. Cox has averaged 100.44 ppg over the season and 104.4 over his last 5. The Eagles play 4 of there last 6 games at Patersons Stadium and have two away trips, one against Port Adelaide who have struggled against the premium ruck man in recent weeks and round 23 against Hawthorn at the MCG. Be wary if the Eagles are locked in either 3rd or 4th spot heading into Round 23 that they don’t rest some of their stars in that long away trip before finals.

Another premium option that has been mooted is Ivan Maric who has been a revelation this season at the Tigers. I would stay away from big Ivan as he is reported to be carrying an injury and may play less minutes in the ruck or miss games late in the season if Richmonds season ultimately culminates at the perennial 9th position.

My choice for those needing to save a little coin is Ben McEvoy. Started the year solidly before getting injured and missing 6 weeks coming back for one game before St.Kilda had the Round 13 bye. Since he returned he has averaged 90.4 ppg and should be fresh leading into the last 6 games. Another upside is that the Saints play all 6 remaining games at either Etihad (4) or the MCG (2) and only one game against a genuine top 4 contender in Collingwood in Round 19. They also have Western Bulldogs, Melbourne and GWS to come.

Others to consider are Sam Jacobs who has a soft draw on the run home including Gold Coast in round 23 and he has averaged 109.7 over the last 3 and Jarryd Roughead who is averaging 104.2 ppg over the last 5, however he comes up against Sydney (Mumford/Pyke) and West Coast (Cox/Naitanui) in round 22 and 23 respectively, our fantasy Preliminary and Grand Finals.

The Ruckman Hype List for the end of the season.
1) Cox
2) McEvoy
3) Jacobs
4) Maric
5) Roughead
