Name: Matthew Leuenberger
Club: Brisbane Lions
Value DreamTeam: $233,600
Value SuperCoach: $301,100
Leuenberger’s season ended before it had began in 2012 injuring his Achilles during his round 3 game against the Dockers. With Ben Hudson moving to Collingwood, Leuenberger will need to reclaim the first ruck position with Billy Longer only entereing his second full season and Stefan Martin, recruited from Melbourne more of a pinch hit Ruckman.
Coming into this season Leuenberger has the ability to replicate the form of the past. Before the injury, Leuenberger was recording personal bests in the gym and the track and looked set to highlight why Brisbane took this risk of selecting him at Pick 4 in the 2006 AFL National Draft.
Now at 24 years old, the big man should be coming into his physical prime and begin to show the Football community his full potential.
In his first two games Leuenberger scored 64 & 99 in DreamTeam and 100 & 104 in SuperCoach highlighting the form he had in 2011 where he averaged 92.8 ppg in AFL DreamTeam and 102.2 in SuperCoach.
The 204cm Leuenberger will need to rely on his leap to be dominant in the ruck. This is not ideal for someone recovering from an Achilles injury and will need to be fully recovered if he is to last the entire season without causing further problems.
Recent history shows players can return successfully from an Achilles injury. Jarryd Roughead came back last season from the same injury and showed no problems with his leap, recapturing the form he had before the injury.
At his price in both AFL Fantasy: DreamTeam and SuperCoach: Classic he is a bargain. With the increase in trades in both games he should be one of the first players selected in your initial starting squad.
80-90 ppg. DreamTeam
90-100 ppg. SuperCoach
