Day One of the AFL Trade period has lived up to the hype starting with the Father/Son nomination draft.
Joe Daniher will continue the Daniher name down at Windy Hill with the Bombers selecting the young tall with pick 10, after Port Adeliade nominated their draft-pick 7 for the young tall.
Melbourne was able to avoid selecting Jack Viney at pick 3 and were able to select Jack, son of former club captain Todd, with their second-round pick 26.
Western Bulldogs acquired Lachie Hunter for its third-round selection pick 35.
It did not take long for the first trade of the 2012 gillette trade period to occur, with the Gold Coast Suns trading pick 2 in exchange for GWS mini draft selection 1. Gold Coast have indicated they will select WA prodigy Jack Martin. Martin will follow in the footsteps of last years number 1 mini draft selection Jaeger O’Meara also at the Gold Coast Suns.
Essendon announced that they had traded free agent Angus Monfries to the Port Adelaide Football club for pick 48. In a trade that was a win/win for both clubs, Monfries, 26, who could have left the football club for free without the Essendon football club receiving any compensation. Instead they gain a pick while Port Adelaide who have lost both Pearce and Chaplin through free agency are still eligible for compensation.
Former Adelaide Crow Tom Lee has reportedly been traded from GWS as a Pre-Listed player to the St. Kilda football club. The key forward had an infamous 1 year tenure the Adelaide Football Club leaving with one year to run on his contract. Does this mean St. Kilda are likely to be out of the Josh Caddy deal? If this trade goes through this may give the strongest indication that the Geelong Cats are in pole position to recruit the Gold Coast player.
Western Bulldog Full-Back Brian Lake and pick 27 has been traded to the Hawthorn Football club in exchange for first-round selection 21 & second-round 41.
